Drive-under garages are everywhere here, and they bring low headroom, a short steep approach, and framing that was never sized for an opener hanging off it. A lot of Atlanta parking is in the basement. Grant Park and Ormewood Park have houses cut into the slope with the garage tucked beneath the main floor, and that hands you a low ceiling, joists in the way of the opener rail, and a slab the driveway drains toward.
It changes three things at once: the headroom above the opening, where an opener can be mounted, and how wet the foot of the door gets. You don't need to diagnose anything. Just say which of those you have, a garage under the house, one in a wing beside it, or a separate building at the back, and measure the ceiling height if you can.
A short steep driveway decides what a technician can park
In Virginia-Highland and Kirkwood the streets are narrow, the drives are short and pitched, and there's frequently nowhere legal to leave a van within sight of the house. A door section and a set of tracks are long, awkward things, and carrying them uphill from two streets away is a real part of the day.
None of that changes what's wrong with your door, but it does change how long the visit takes, and you're better off seeing it in the estimate than meeting it as a surprise. Tell us where a vehicle can actually stop, whether the driveway is shared with a neighbor, and whether the street is permit-only.
An enclosed carport puts the opener on framing nobody sized for it
The brick ranches through Cascade Heights and East Lake were often built with a carport, and plenty were closed in later with a door and an opener added. The header over the new opening was doing a different job originally, and a motor pulling against a springy header will shake, drift out of line, and lose its travel settings.
If your opener has to be reset every few months, or the door stops in a slightly different place each time, look up at what the motor's hanging from. Tell us whether the garage started life as a carport, because it's the mount that wants attention rather than the machine.

Say that in your message, because access changes how the visit gets planned. Don't keep trying the opener meanwhile, since a door that's binding or has lost its counterbalance only gets worse with each attempt, and the parts under strain are the expensive ones. The door refuses to close and the opener light is flashing.
A flashing opener light is the machine telling you the safety circuit is unhappy, and that's nearly always the two sensors down near the floor. Look at whether both little lights are lit, and check that nothing has been stacked in front of either one. Don't disable them to force the door shut.
Can I replace the spring myself? I am fairly handy.
This is the one to hand over. A torsion spring stores enough energy to break bones, the winding bars are specific to the job, and on a double door the second spring is usually just as tired as the one that let go. Almost everything else on a garage door is fair game for a capable owner. This isn't.
The sensors work in the morning and fail in the evening.
That pattern usually means light. Sun low in the sky and pointed into the receiving eye will overwhelm it, and a work light aimed the wrong way does the same. A technician can shade or reposition the pair. Tell us which direction the opening faces and roughly what time it starts going wrong.
The opener is dead and the garage is in the basement on one outlet.
Start with that outlet and its breaker, because basement garage circuits get shared with things that trip them. If the power is confirmed good and the opener still does nothing, the board or the motor is the suspect. Tell us what you already checked so a technician isn't repeating your work.
