Low afternoon sun lands directly in a photo eye and the opener reads it as something in the way, so the door goes down a foot and comes straight back up. Every afternoon, same hour, then perfectly fine by evening. It's one of the cheapest faults on a door and one of the most expensively misdiagnosed.

What tends to go wrong here.
Note the time of day the door refuses to close
It matters more here than in most places. When the afternoon sun drops low enough to shine straight down the opening, it can land in one of the two safety eyes near the floor and blind it. The opener reads that as an obstruction and sends the door back up, and an hour later everything works again.
Heat does something similar to the opener itself. A unit that has been sitting in a shut garage since noon runs hot and can cut out on its own thermal protection. So tell us when it happens, not just what happens. If it's fine in the morning and awkward from about three onward, that narrows things down and saves a wasted visit.
Huntridge and Scotch 80s openings were not built for a modern door
The downtown-side neighborhoods went up when garages were single width and cars were smaller. Huntridge cottages and a lot of John S. Park houses have openings to match, and some of those garages started life as carports and were closed in later, which leaves an odd frame behind.
Scotch 80s adds its own wrinkle, because a porte cochere in front of the opening looks good and means a service vehicle can't pull square to the door. None of that changes what is broken. It changes how long the job takes and whether the parts on the truck will fit. Say whether it's a single or a double, and whether anything is built over the driveway.
A Summerlin or Desert Shores board will want the panel to match
Out on the west and northwest side, associations in Summerlin, Desert Shores and Skye Canyon generally have a say in what the front of the house looks like, and the garage door is most of the front of the house. A single replacement section has to sit convincingly between the ones either side of it.
Full afternoon sun makes that harder than it sounds, because a door that has been facing west for years fades unevenly and a brand new section rarely matches it first time. If your community reviews exterior changes, mention it early, and photograph the whole door in daylight so the profile and the color are both visible.
What a Las Vegas technician needs from you first
Cross streets, single or double, what the door did and where it stopped, and whether a car is stuck inside. You don't need to work out which part failed, and honestly you shouldn't try. The technician does that at the door, and it's the reason the visit exists.
Photos taken from standing height are fine, and please don't climb for a better angle. Anything that reaches us by 5 p.m. Monday through Friday gets an answer from a person that day, and later requests get the next business morning. Nothing happens when I hit the remote. Is the opener dead?
Try the wall button first. If the wall button works, the problem is the remote or its battery, which is the cheapest outcome available. If nothing moves the door at all, stop rather than repeating the attempt, and tell us whether the opener made any noise, whether the door shifted at all, and whether a car is shut inside.
It only refuses to close in the late afternoon.
That timing is a real clue and it points at the safety eyes. When the sun drops low enough to shine straight into the opening it can wash out the receiving eye, and the opener treats that as a fault and sends the door back up. Heat inside the opener can do something similar. Note when it starts and when it stops, and send that with your request.
There is a gap in the spring above my door. Can I still use it?
No. A gap means the spring has broken, and the weight of the door is now hanging off cables and brackets that were not sized to hold it. Do not run the opener, do not try to lift the door by hand, and do not park under it. Leave everything where it is and let a technician deal with it.
Dust keeps setting off my sensors. Is there a fix?
Often, yes. The lenses pick up a fine film out here and a wipe with a dry cloth clears a surprising number of faults. If the trouble comes back within days, the brackets are probably loose enough to drift out of line every time the door runs. Tell us how often it happens and whether both lights are lit, and leave the circuit intact.
The opener quit in the middle of the afternoon and came back later.
That pattern usually means it overheated, shut itself down to protect the motor, and reset once the garage cooled. It matters whether the door is also getting harder to move, because an opener fighting a badly balanced door heats up much faster than one that is not.
